Abstract
Are we to assume automatically that a foreign government's indictment of a person for a serious crime is false simply because, without denying the offence, he claims it is a political charge and that he would be tortured if extradited? Such a claim might be expectedalso from a guilty person who has properly been indicted and who woould not be tortured.
A better investigation of the circumstancs is appropriate.
Is a person who is valuable to an Australian sporting organisation to be accepted as a tue reugee simply because of an administrativve finding? After all, favourable administrative decisions on immigration havve been made for au pair girls useful to sporting bodies' officials.
